Common Yarrow

Common Yarrow

Yarrow is such a popular and well-known plant, it has more names than most: gordaldo, milfoil, nosebleed plant, sanguinary, thousand-leaf, thousand-seal, woundwort. It’s sometimes used as a medicinal plant to stop bleeding, which explains some of those names. It grows so vigorously that it’s considered a weed in many places. But we grow it on the median for its long, leggy stalks that produce countless tiny white or yellow flowers in the summer. Hacking it back doesn’t seem to stunt it much, so it’s popular for cutting gardens.
