Kinnikinnick

Kinnikinnick

The leathery leaves of the Common Bearberry typify northwest native shrubs. The dark green, dense Kinnikinnick is a sturdy survivor. (It’s also a fun name to say!) A slow grower, it eventually can form a large, dense, but low, thicket. The Common name and the Latin name reflect its popularity with hungry bears. It can survive bears. And it’s just fine in a drought, full sun, rocky sites, and poor soil. Perfectly happy to be ignored.
