Oceanspray

Oceanspray is a medium-to-large shrub with massive drooping clusters, or sprays, of white flowers from May to July. It’s a northwest native, but one that is native to a lot of other western states as well: California and Oregon, and parts of Idaho, Montana, and Nevada. So it’s one of the most widespread deciduous shrubs in the western United States. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish these green woody native shrubs from each other, but Oceanspray simplifies things. Look for leaves that are fairly dark green on one side, and much lighter green on the other. This is signified in the second part of its scientific name: holodiscus discolor.
