Star Jasmine

Star Jasmine

We love jasmine. Certainly we hope you do, too, because we’ve planted it along the entire length of a wall that’s about 300 feet long. Nearly all of it is the well-known Star Jasmine, with its leathery dark green leaves and a field of white star-shaped flowers. A small handful of plants along the wall are the much less well-known Pink Jasmine. Both are happy climbers, easily scaling the 8 or so feet of stainless steel cabling along the wall. As the tiny tendrils inch up the wall, the supporting plants below form sturdy woody branches. A persistent climber, jasmine is even better known for its powerful, sweet scent. Beginning in mid-summer, pinwheel-shaped jasmine blossoms appear. The more sun, the more blossoms. In cold weather, jasmine’s green leaves turn a hearty hue of bronze.
